The Voice of CMU Hockey

Shawn Bednard is a Sophomore at Central Michigan University, working as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, and Play-by-Play voice of CMU Hockey on the Chippewa Hockey Network. He has worked in the Sports Broadcasting field since 2010, and in that time has been Nationally and Regionally awarded for his Packages, Storytelling, Reporting, and Announcing Work, including being awarded a Michigan Emmy for Sports Story of the Year in 2012. Shawn got his start in Sports Broadcasting at the Nationally Recognized and Awarded High School Television Station, Davison Television, where he served as the Sports Director, and saw major growth and improvement within the department. Working as a Play-by-Play and Color man for the Chippewa Sports Network the past two years for Football, Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball, has sent Shawn all around the Midwest, from Illinois to New York, and everywhere in between.

Shawn comes from the Hockey rich community of Davison, Michigan, which has had pass through it's hockey program names such as Ken Morrow (1980 Miracle on Ice and Stanley Cup Champion), and Tim Thomas (Vezina Trophy Awarded Goaltender for the Boston Bruins, Stanley Cup Champion). His love for the game of hockey stems back from a strong junior league presence in nearby Flint, Michigan, starting with the IHL's Flint Generals, advancing to the OHL's Flint Firebirds, and has only exponentially grown since. Shawn is cousins to Bowling Green State University Hockey's own Shane and Ryan Bednard, the latter being drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2015.
